The pink granite coast of Brittany

There are three pink granite coasts in the world: in China, in Corsica and finally in Brittany.

The granite you can see today was formed 300 million years ago and is a blend of 3 minerals: quartz, mica and feldspar. It is the unique combination of these three minerals that gives this color so characteristic to pink granite.

The pink granite rocks, shaped by the weather, now form superb sculptures. So, if you open your eyes, you will be able to see a paint palette, Napoleon's hat, a die,...

In the village of La Clarté, which overlooks Perros-Guirec, there are two pink granite quarries that are still active. This very sturdy material is used in particular in roads - the square in front of the City Hall in Paris is the best example - but also for funeral buildings, and finally for individual houses that you can observe a lot on the coast.

The Pink Granite Coast invites tourism

The best way to visit the Pink Granite Coast is of course to take the Customs Trail. It is when you arrive at Pors Rolland that you will be able to see the divide between the gray granite that we know and the beginning of the pink granite.

Throughout this walk, you will find beaches. The beach of Saint Guirec in Ploumanac'h is surely the most beautiful since you can swim there in the middle of pink granite rocks, with the castle of Costaerès in the distance. This castle built on an island, also made of pink granite, is one of the emblematic monuments of Perros-Guirec.
